|⌐ofkeevWelcome to the ScriptThing Demo
n¬ojeeevHOW TO USE THIS DEMO
n⌐oddhevThis Demo is the ScriptThing program with several functions such as printing and saving either limited or disabled. The best way to evaluate the program is to type a page of a script with these instructions to learn basic inputting.
n⌐oddievYou should realize, however, that ScriptThing is a very power~ful and flexible program and there are many methods available to do most things. What I'm going to show you here are the methods that involve ≈learning the least≡ rather than the most efficient methods.
n⌐oddievOnce you feel comfortable with the methods I describe here, I'd highly recommend you run the On-Screen Tutorial as it explains some additional faster ways of doing things. The full program, of course, comes with an excellent manual that describes all these and more options in great detail.
n¬ojeeevTo Start...
n⌐oddjevYou need to get to a blank document so either don't load the Demo Instructions when you first run ScriptThing, or if you're currently reading them from the screen press <ESC> for the Pull-Down Menus, press <ENTER> to select ≤File≥, then select ≤Save & Exit Script≥. Although it won't actually let you save these instructions, it will exit to a blank screen.
n¬ojeeevTO PUT IN FADE IN:
n⌐oddgevType ≤fade in:≥ and as soon as you press the colon (≤:≥) it will be automatically capitalized and you will see a pull-down Menu of ≤Initial Scene Text≥.
n¬ojeeevFROM THE INITIAL SCENE HEADING TEXT MENU
n¬oddgevPress ≤I≥ for ≤INT.≥, or as it is already highlighted, press <ENTER>, and in either case you'll be put into a Scene Head~ing with that initial text already typed in for you.
n¬ojeeevTYPE IN THE SCENE HEADING LOCATION
n⌐oddgevFrom here, type in the word ≤cabin≥ and it will be automatically in capitals. Press <ENTER> and you'll see a Menu of Common Times-Of-Day.
n¬ojeeevFROM THE TIMES-OF-DAY MENU
n⌐oddhevEither press the arrow down until ≤NIGHT≥ is highlighted and then press <ENTER> or just press the letter ≤N≥ and in either case it will automatically put in the NIGHT with two dashes for you, and leave you in action.
f│odledv
n⌐oddhevType the first paragraph of Action: ≈The cabin is dark and drafty, the heavy PATTER of rain on a tile roof telling us of a spring storm outside.≡ and then press <ENTER> and it will take you to a new Action Element.
n⌐oddjevType the second paragraph of Action: ≈LARRY sits in an over~stuffed armchair staring dully into the fireplace, a half-empty bottle of SCOTCH clutched loosely in his hand. The fire has long since gone out, only dully glowing embers remain.≡ Note that it automatically word wraps as you type and you ≤do not≥ have to press <ENTER> after each line.
n¬ojeeevTO PUT IN A CHARACTER NAME
n⌐oddkevImmediately after typing the period in "...embers remain." and without pressing <ENTER> press the <TAB> Key (in case you don't know, the <TAB> key is the key with two arrows just above the CapsLock Key on most keyboards) and you'll be put into a Character Name. Type ≤larry≥ and it will be capit~alized as you type. Press <ENTER> and you'll be put into Dialogue.
n¬ojeeevTO PUT IN A PARENTHETICAL
n⌐oddievFrom within Dialogue, press the left Parenthesis (≤(≥) and it will put you into a Parenthetical. Type ≈mumbling≡ and press <ENTER> to go to Dialogue. Don't worry about any extra spaces between the parenthetical and the right parenthesis as Script~Thing will remove them automatically.
n¬ojeeevIN DIALOGUE
n⌐oddeevType ≈Damn psychopaths...≡
n¬ojeeevTO GO TO ACTION FROM DIALOGUE
n⌐oddievPress <ENTER> once. If you told ScriptThing to allow Dialogue Paragraphs during the installation, then you'll be taken to a second Dialogue Element, otherwise you'll be taken directly to Action. If you are in a Second Dialogue Paragraph then press <ENTER> again and you'll be taken to Action.
n⌐oddeevType ≈He takes another swig from the bottle.≡ and then...
n¬ojeeevPUT IN THE SAME CHARACTER NAME AGAIN
n⌐oddgevPress <TAB> and then type the letter ≤L≥ and a menu will pop up with all the names that begin with ≤L≥ that are already in the script on it.
n⌐oddhevAs Larry is already highlighted, all you have to do is press <ENTER> and ScriptThing will finish out the name for you and put you into Dialogue. Type the dialogue: ≈Don't know a good thing≡ ≈when it's starin' 'em in the face.≡
f│odledv
n⌐oddgevPress <ENTER> either once or twice as needed to get to Action and type the Action:≈ A BANGING on the front door makes Larry look up≡ ≈from the embers.≡
n¬oddievAgain press <TAB> and type the letter ≤L≥ and press <ENTER> to have ScriptThing finish out the name for you and leave you in Dialogue. Press the Left Parenthesis (≤(≥) for a parenthe~tical and type in ≈calling≡ then press <ENTER> to go to Dialogue. Type ≈Go'way.≡
n¬ojeeevPUT IN A NEW CHARACTER NAME
n¬oddjevPress <TAB> and then type the letter ≤L≥ and that menu with all the names that begin with ≤L≥ on it will pop up. Since Lisa is not already in the menu, simply keep typing her name. As soon as you press the ≤i≥, then the highlight on LARRY will go away which means that ScriptThing will accept whatever you type as a new name, rather than finishing it out for you.
n⌐oddhevFinish typing ≈LISA≡ and then instead of pressing <ENTER>, press the left Parenthesis (≤(≥) because we need to put in
